Kerala Tourism to host Malabar River Festival 2014

Kerala gearing upto host the second edition of “Malabar River Festival 2014″. The Malabar River festival returns this year with a bang without motto being "Bigger, Harder and Faster". This festival is being organized by Madras Fun Tools in association with the District Tourism Promotional Council and Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society, kayaking international championship and white-water rafting will be held on the rivers of Iruvanjhupuzha and Chalipuzha.

Mr. Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister, Kerala will inaugurate the white-water kayaking championship which is scheduled to be held on July 25, 26 and 27 at Thusharagiri. The first edition of the Malabar River Festival, held in August 2013 on the rivers of Iruvanjhupuzha and Chalipuzha was a smashing success.

 With nearly double the prize money from last year (Rs. 5 lakhs/ USD 9000) up for grabs and about 80 participants from all over the world. With about 50 kayakers from all over the India, Europe and North America, the competition was keenly contested and a big hit with the audience. The festival drew an audience of over 6000 people and was featured in all the TV news channels, local and international press.

Ms. Asha Jose, chief executive officer, Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society said “our aim is to promote the sport of White Water Kayaking in South India and the event already had more than 70 foreign entries, the U.S., Italy, Bhutan, Australia, Czechoslovakia and China. We have also decided to introduce rafting this year as an added attraction, from this we expect to generate a fresh interest in youth towards adventure water sports.”
