Ustad Zakir Hussain and Anoushka Shankar will perform at Nishagandhi Festival 2016

The Eight day long Nishagandhi Dance and Music Festival 2016 organised by Kerala Tourism Department  will begin on Kanakakunnu Palace grounds at Trivandrum  from January 20.

Mr. Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala will inaugurate the cultural extravaganza in the presence of  Mr. A P Anil Kumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala and a host of cultural icons including Tabla Maestro Ustad Zakir Hussian, Sitar exponent Ms. Anoushka Shankar and Padmabhushan T.V. Sankara Narayanan taking part in the festival.

“The inaugural ceremony on January 20 at 6.30 pm will be followed by scintillating Sitar performance by  Ms. Anoushka Shankar”  Mr. A P Anil Kumar, Minister for Tourism, Kerala told a news conference today , Dec 31,2015  at Triavndrum.

On January 21st, Vijayanthi Kashi and Pratheeksha Kashi will perform Kuchhipudi while on Jan 22nd Sreeranjini Kodampally and Gayathri Asokan pair will perform a Carnataic Hindfusthani Jugalbandhi.

On January 22nd Ms Smitha Madhav will be on stage with her Bharathanatyam, followed by Padmabhushan T.V. Sankara Narayanan will perform Carnatic Music with his melodious voice.

The dance and music performances will be held in the evenings at the Nishagandhi open air auditorium and will have free entry for the public.

On January 23rd Dr. M. Lalitha and M. Nandhini paor will perform Instrumental fusion and on Kanuary 24th Guru Ramkrishna Talukdar and Krishnakshi Kashyap team on stage for Sattriya Dance. Ms. Marami Medhi and Meghranjani Medhi will perform Kathak on same say.

On January 25th Mandolin Maestro Mr. Pandit Sugato Bhaduri will perform first time in the Capital city of Kerala, followed by Padma Shri Ileana Citaristi with her Odissi performace.

Actress and dancer Padma Shri Hema Malini will take to the stage on the penultimate day ( 26.01.2016) of the festival with a Fusion Dance, while on the last day ( 27.01.2016)

The fest will conclude on January 28 with a Jugalbandhi feast by Ustad Zakir Hussin with Flute Maestros Shashank Subramanyam and Rakesh Chourasia.

Kanakakkunnu Palace will also host a Kathakali fest from January 20 to January 26, as part of Nishagandhi festival. Kathakali masters Kalamandalam Gopi, Madavoor Vasudevan Nair, Kalamandalam C M Balasubramanian, Ettumanoor P Kannan and Sadanam Krishnankutty will be among the performers.

Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) will also organise a food fest on the sidelines of the festival.
