Mascot Hotel celebrates centenary with Five-Star status, to carry out Rs 25-crore heritage restoration project

As the iconic Mascot Hotel in Kerala is celebrating its centenary with Five-Star status, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) has drawn up a comprehensive project for the restoration of the heritage of the trail blazer of hospitality segment, on a budget of Rs 25 crore.

Chief Minister of Kerala, Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the project on February 27th  at Mascot Hotel in the presence of Mr. Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Co-operation, Devaswom and Tourism Govt of Kerala..

“ Mascot  Hotel is a priceless treasure of  Kerala and  the Jewel in KTDC’s crown. It has been a witness to the history of the last 100 years.  The restoration will be carried out without  harming its heritage and the distinguishing architectural features”,said  Mr. M Vijayakumar, Chairman, KTDC.

The project to strengthen and preserve the heritage property will be carried out under the leadership of Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS), said Mr. Rahul R IRS, MD, KTDC.

The Government has already accorded administrative sanction for Rs 5 crore for the project.

Originally an accommodation unit for officers of the Royal British Army during the First World War (1914- 1918), during the reign of the Kingdom of Travancore, Mascot has passed through a long history while emerging as the premium brand in Kerala’s hospitality sector.
