Culinary journey from Bengal to Bengaluru @ The Chancery

A hit in the City, the recently concluded Bengali food festival held at The Chancery Hotel, drew people of all ethnicities to the lavish spread of Bengali delicacies. The festival showcased some of the best Bengali delicacies prepared by their executive chef RajkumarNandy who used distinct Bengali spices and flavours in his cooking, that were specially flown in from Kolkata to ensure the original taste of Bengal. Chef Nandy believes that the taste of the varied spices procured from the land of its origin is exactly what enhances the taste of his food and lends authenticity to the Bengali food festival.

The spread was so elaborate and lavish that even the most disciplined eaters indulged in guilt-free gluttony. Each day, the menu comprised of more than 15 vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies and was a special treat to seafood lovers, who relished the seafood, dominated Bengali food. The vegetarian dishes were served first, followed by fish and then meat and concluded with melt-in-the-mouth sweets.

The menu was fairly traditional, with innovative fusion Rasagulla shots that added a modern twist. The spread showcased Bengali fare which included AlooJhuribhaja, Poshtorboda, Machhaer chop, Atlamachaerkalia, Mutton Dakbunglow, PoshtodewaMurgi, BasontiPulao, Mutton Rezala, BhajaMoong dal, Shukto, AloopotolaerRosa , Mochar Chop (Banana Flower). The starters were complimented by Tomato Khejurer Chutney ( mixed with Aampapad ), Anaraser chutney (pineapple), KaanchaAamer Chutney (Raw mango), GurerRosagolla (with date palm jaggery) and Khejurer rolls made with dates. The fusion Rosogulla shots in Filter coffee. Green chilli, Saffron, RoohAfza, Blue Curacao. Raj bhog, Komolabhog and Gurerrosogolla flavours were the icing on the cake and left every guest asking for more.

We ignored the uninspiring decor because the food is what counted here, though efforts were made to create an ambience that augmented the experience, to be honest, when the feast is before you, little does your mind wander off to the ambience. All in all, a successful feat that had to be extended because of the fantastic response it garnered from namma Bengaluru.
