HK Patil is the New Karnataka Tourism Minister

Veteran Congress leader and Co-operative sector administrator Mr. Hanumanthagowda Krishnegowda Patil (HK Patil) has been allocated Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Legislation and Tourism in the newly elected Karnataka Government headed by Mr. K Siddaramaiah.

Mr. H.K. Patil, the former Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj in the Government of Karnataka is currently represents the Gadag Assembly Constituency in Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He was the Minister for Major and Medium Industries in the Council of Ministers headed by M Krishna in 1999 and also served as the Minister for textiles major irrigation, agriculture and Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Karnataka ,Leader of Opposition and Member of Karnataka Legislative Council.

Mr. H.K. Patil was  born on August 15, 1953 and  graduated in both Science and Law from renowned universities and elected to the Legislative Council from Graduate Constituency continuously for three times during 1984-90, 1990-96 and 1996-2002.   Before entering to active politics, Mr. H.K. Patil was a known Journalist and Editor of Vishala Karnataka (Kannada Daily) and Karnataka State Press Academy. Mr. H.K. Patil served as the President of National Federation of Urban Co-operative Banks & Credit Societies, New Delhi during 1989-93 and the President of Karnataka State Co-operative Urban Banks Federation Limited and Karnataka State Industrial Co-operative Federation Limited, Bangalore.

Popularly known as Tiger of Hulkoti, Patil got widespread accolades for his enthusiasm and involvement with the expansion of Irrigation across the state and spearhead the attempt for Cloud Seeding while being the Minister for Water Resources of Karnataka.  Karnataka bagged the E-Award instituted by the Centre for effective use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the Panchayat Raj department for the year 2015-16 during his term as Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka. .His Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka department won National awards successively for record 4 years from 2014-15 to 2017-18.

Mr. H.K. Patil is the son of Late Mr. K. H. Patil, a renowned politician and former Minister for Co-operation, Government of Karnataka, hailing from Hulkoti, Gadag Taluk, Dharwad District in Karnataka. Mr. Patil is an ardent reader and swimmer. His wife Mrs. Hema H. Patil is also an active social service worker and has two daughters and one son.
