Better known as the “Land of Stories” or the ‘Land of Experiences”, Bangladesh has a plethora of wonders for tourists in the domain of heritage, beaches, spiritual, wildlife and tea tourism. The upcoming campaign of Bangladesh Tourism has been “Mountain to Sea” and is eyeing to pull a major chunk of Indian travellers.
An hour’s flight journey from Kolkata to the capital city of Dhaka, the country boasts of three UNESCO-listed World Heritage sites including the ruins of Buddhist Somapura Mahavihara in historic Paharpur, the Sixty Dome Mosque in Bagherhat and The Sundarbans. Official sources inform, “We wish to develop Buddhist circuit tourism, Shakti Peeth tourism and boost cross-border tourism along with the travel agents of West Bengal. There are other prominent heritage sites in the country like the British-era Armenian Church, Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manzil, Curzon Hall in Dhaka University and Zamindar Mohera House in the vicinity of Dhaka. The world’s longest uninterrupted beach is at Cox’s Bazar, part of Chittagong sub-division. MICE tourism has taken off in a major way at Cox’s Bazar which has a convention centre with a capacity to accommodate 10,000 visitors.”
An agrarian country with 1,100 rivers, Bangladesh is also famed as the “Land of Rivers.” There is St. Martin’s Island and the pristine Kuakata beach offering unforgettable glimpses of sunrise and sunset in the Bay of Bengal. There are flights from Kolkata to Dhaka, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar.
Bearing geographical proximity to India, Sylhet is the tea capital of the country. Official sources said, “Sylhet has 52 tea gardens with unspoilt natural beauty, rainforests and is replete with wetlands that have sound quality houseboats. Our hills are quite unexplored and form home to 11 ethnic minority tribes. We have world-class vessels operating in The Sundarbans. Our tantalizing cuisines and confectioneries steal the spotlight.”
