The Malanad Malabar Project project which aims to develop the waterways of north Kerala and make it popular among the tourists and make them aware of the history, culture, heritage, art forms , and cuisines of the region was launched at Parassinikkadavu in Kannur by Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala.
The project will explore the tourism potential of eight rivers and a lake — Mahe, Valapattanam, Kuppam, Perumba, Kavvayi, Anjarakkandy, Thejaswini and Chandragiri rivers and the Valiyaparamba ‘kayal’ — flowing through the region.
“The project is expected to create 2 lakh employment opportunities within five years and we intend to create a new brand of tourism by employing an eco-friendly green architecture design and a zero-waste model. A sewage treatment plant, bio-toilets and a permanent mechanism for processing plastic waste will be key components of the project,” said Mr. Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Kerala.
