SUMMER SET TO IGNITE A $1.3 BILLION TOURISM SURGE ON THE GOLD COAST

The Gold Coast is gearing up for an exceptional summer, with the latest figures indicating that Australia’s premier tourism destination is on track for a remarkable resurgence, aligning with pre-pandemic levels.

Mr. John Warn, CEO of Experience Gold Coast, emphasized the region’s extraordinary recovery in the face of global challenges, stating, “Summer is traditionally our peak period for visitation, and this year we anticipate the season will inject more than $1.3 billion into the local economy – on par with pre-pandemic levels – now that all markets are open.”

According to AEC modeling, 42 percent of the economic impact will be generated by interstate visitors, compared to a quarter from international visitors. This news is particularly welcomed by the 10,000 tourism businesses on the Gold Coast, ready to provide memorable experiences for both locals and visitors.

“Occupancy is already heading through 70 percent, but we are still encouraging last-minute holidaymakers to jump onto booking sites now,” added Mr. Warn, noting that the booking window remains shorter as travelers carefully consider their options.

Highlighting the diverse offerings of the holiday playground, Mr. Warn said, “Here in our holiday playground, you have the freedom to go with the flow and pick your pace. Leap into action-packed adventures at thrilling attractions or slow right down and reconnect with nature in Heritage-listed rainforest.”

Visitor figures indicate a steady increase to 12.6 million total visitors, including record domestic visitors, showcasing the Gold Coast’s allure as a sought-after destination for leisure, business, education, or visiting friends and relatives.

Mr. Warn emphasized the Gold Coast’s connectivity, being one of the most connected destinations in Queensland with two airport gateways. He also noted the return of China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines, just in time for the Lunar New Year, thanks to partnerships through the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund. “The Gold Coast is the second most sought-after Australian destination for Chinese travelers behind Sydney, so that tells us we have a huge advantage to capitalize on now that the connectivity has been established.”

As the Gold Coast prepares for the vibrant embrace of summer, it extends a warm invitation to travelers seeking a tapestry of experiences. Headline events set to unfold across the city in the coming months include Sneakers Unboxed: Studio to Street, Australian Volleyball Schools Cup, The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival, the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, and the Gold Coast Open.
