The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) announced its 15th Annual Convention. Set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, this momentous gathering, slated for December 16-19, 2023, will unite stakeholders from across the nation. They’ll come together for discussions and celebrations centered around the dynamic growth and promise of responsible adventure tourism in India.
Mr. Ajeet Bajaj, President of ATOAI, highlights the immense potential within adventure tourism. Pre-pandemic statistics showcased a booming global industry valued at $683 billion, with an extraordinary 21% Compound Annual Growth Rate since 2012. The aspirations, backed by the World Bank and esteemed associations, projected that adventure travel would potentially become a trillion-dollar global industry by 2024. India’s diverse landscapes, rich biodiversity, and cultural heritage uniquely position the nation to lead in this field. The right strategies could potentially double inbound tourism figures in the next five years, not only boosting the economy but also fostering sustainable development in remote regions.
Gujarat, with its varied landscapes and cultural richness, is emerging as a vibrant hub for adventure tourism. The convention aims to unveil the untapped potential of this state, offering thrilling experiences to adventure enthusiasts worldwide.
Mr. Hareet Shukla (IAS), Secretary of Tourism, Government of Gujarat, extends a warm invitation to the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India for their convention at the iconic Statue of Unity. This statue, a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, symbolizes the region’s history, heritage, and resilience. Gujarat’s natural diversity and traditions offer numerous adventure opportunities, and hosting the convention at this prestigious location will create a unique and enriching experience for all attendees.
Mr. Vaibhav Kala, Vice President, and convention Chair, ATOAI, expresses, “The convention is a convergence of travel conglomerates, government officials, media, and visionary leaders, all sculpting the future of adventure tourism in India. We aim to unite grassroots operators from India’s remote areas with global adventure tourism leaders, strengthening our collective impact.”
ATOAI’s vision is to position India as a global adventure tourism hub, aiming to be among the top ten adventure travel destinations by 2033. Their efforts align with the Ministry of Tourism’s initiatives, particularly the establishment of the National Board for Adventure Tourism, an essential step for sustainable growth. Recent initiatives, including safety regulations and capacity-building, highlight the commitment to responsible growth in adventure tourism.
The convention, themed “Indian Adventure Travel: Exploring New Frontiers,” will serve as a platform for industry leaders, government officials, and media to collaborate on shaping the future of adventure tourism. It aims to bridge the gap between local operators and global leaders in the field.
Additionally, the convention will provide three FAM tours for delegates to craft exciting itineraries promoting adventure tourism in Gujarat. There will also be a dedicated session to the “Travel for Life” program and a pledge to maintain an environmentally conscious event by eliminating single-use plastics.
