Renowned hospitality industry figure Mr Anand G Nair has been appointed as the new General Manager of the InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort, near Chennai, marking his return to the esteemed establishment.
An industry veteran with extensive experience in South India’s hospitality sector, Anand Nair previously served as the General Manager of the iconic Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park, the capital city’s celebrated hotel. This marks his second tenure at the InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort, having previously overseen operations there before transferring to manage the Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park, one of South India’s busiest hotels.
With over 29 years of industry experience, Anand brings a wealth of expertise in managing both business and leisure hotel portfolios. He is widely recognized for his sharp business acumen, adept market stabilization strategies, and a proven track record of delivering year-on-year profitable growth. Anand is known as a dynamic and highly motivated leader with deep insights into the luxury hospitality market.
Anand’s illustrious career includes leadership roles at Vasundhara Sarovar Resort, a picturesque backwater retreat in Kerala’s Cherthala near Alleppey, where he transformed the resort into a premier destination in “God’s Own Country.”
Having joined IHG South West Asia in 2018, Anand has held various leadership positions, most recently as General Manager at Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park. He began his career as a Management Trainee with the Leela Group of hotels before assuming leadership roles in Food & Beverage at prestigious properties of The Leela and The Taj Group of Hotels in India and Sri Lanka. Anand then joined Sarovar Hotels and Resorts as a General Manager, where he successfully launched the award-winning Vasundhara Sarovar Premiere hotel in 2010, earning him the GM of the Year award twice. During the pandemic, Anand efficiently managed the operations of The Intercontinental Chennai and The Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park before focusing on Crowne Plaza for the next three years. His exceptional contributions were recognized with the General Manager of the Year (Owner’s Impact Award) in 2023.
In his new role, Anand will oversee the complete operations and management of InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort, ensuring the highest standards of guest engagement, profitability, and the continued enhancement of the resort’s positioning and reputation.
