In a significant move aimed at offering greater convenience and rewards to its customers, Air India has announced the launch of its revamped Flying Returns loyalty program. The new program promises a simplified structure, more customer-friendly features, and an updated identity to provide members with instant global status and privileges worldwide.
The overhaul marks the first major transformation of the Flying Returns program in over a decade. One of the key changes introduced is a shift from the traditional miles-based collection of points to a more equitable spend-based approach. Under the new structure, members will earn points based on the amount spent on tickets rather than the distance flown, ensuring greater value for money spent.
According to Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial & Transformation Officer of Air India, the revamp reflects the airline’s commitment to serving and delighting customers. Aggarwal stated, “The revamp of Flying Returns is an important step forward in the way the ‘new’ Air India intends to serve and delight customers. We spent the past year listening, gathering insights from over 50,000 customers, and benchmarking our program against the best loyalty offerings out there.”
Key highlights of the revamped Flying Returns program include Spend-based Rewards: Members will now earn points based on the amount spent on tickets, providing greater value for money, Evergreen Points: Flying Returns Points will never expire as long as a member takes at least one flight on Air India every 24 months., No Blackout Dates: Members can redeem points for any available Air India seat without restrictions., Cash+Points Option: Members can now use a combination of points and cash to purchase award flights, offering greater flexibility., Global Reach: Flying Returns members can earn or redeem points on 25 Star Alliance partner airlines worldwide, providing access to over 700 destinations., Renamed Membership Tiers: Membership tiers have been renamed as Red, Silver, Gold, and Platinum., Priority Services: Silver, Gold, and Platinum members will have access to a dedicated member service contact centre for seamless assistance.
Additionally, the revamped program offers new features such as Family Pooling, bonus points for booking flights directly on Air India’s website or app, and opportunities to earn points through non-airline partners such as car rentals, hotels, and lifestyle experiences. Air India also plans to introduce co-branded credit cards and partnerships with popular brands to further enhance travel benefits and privileges for Flying Returns members.
