In a significant move to bolster its tourism sector, Tamil Nadu Tourism has launched a large-scale skill development initiative, commencing with a specialized workshop for its officials organized in collaboration with the Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS).


The impactful program, held on 13th June, 2025 was formally inaugurated by Ms. Shilpa Prabhakar IAS, Commissioner for Tourism, Government of Tamil Nadu, underscoring the state’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of its tourism workforce.


Dr. Dileep M.R., Director of KITTS, not only felicitated the program but also led a crucial session highlighting the expansive scope of skilling and up skilling initiatives within the tourism industry, emphasizing potential collaborations with Kerala Tourism.
Further enriching the workshop, Dr. Hari Krishnan, IQAC Coordinator and Faculty at KITTS, conducted a session focused on skill development at the grassroots level in tourism, addressing the foundational aspects of capacity building. Dr. Saroop Roy, Head of Department and Faculty at KITTS, delivered a session on sustainable tourism, exploring its various forms and crucial development strategies.


The workshop witnessed active participation from a diverse group of stakeholders, including all district tourism officers, state tourism officials, Heads of State IHMs, IHM Chennai, and representatives from the Tourism Department of Madurai Kamaraj University.
Interactive sessions during the program proved highly fruitful, generating a wealth of opportunities for skill development, fostering the growth of community-based tourism, and exploring avenues for deeper collaboration between Kerala Tourism, KITTS, and Tamil Nadu Tourism. This partnership is expected to pave the way for a more skilled and sustainable tourism ecosystem in Tamil Nadu.
