Abad Hotels and Resorts has announced the launch of their newest heritage property, The Old Court House, located on Calvathy Road, opposite the coastal police station in Fort Kochi in Kerala. The hotel, set to open on July 1st, is a luxurious blend of history and modern sophistication.
The Old Court House, originally constructed as a courthouse 200 years ago, has a rich history, having served as a banking office for ANZ Grindlays and later as a warehouse for spices and teas. The building has now been meticulously restored to offer a unique heritage experience with an art deco renovation that provides modern amenities.
Mr. Jibran Asif, Director of Abad Hotels and Resorts, shared his excitement about the new venture. “The Old Court House is our third property in Fort Kochi, and we are thrilled to open its doors on July 1st. This building has a storied past, and we have worked hard to preserve its historical essence while adding contemporary comforts,” he said. “Our guests can expect a unique blend of history and luxury, with facilities including a rooftop pool with stunning sea views, a seafood speciality restaurant, and a banquet space that can accommodate up to 80 guests.”
The Old Court House features 16 boutique rooms, including 10 boutique rooms, 4 Heritage Classic rooms, and 2 Executive suite rooms. The hotel also offers a range of facilities such as a swimming pool, a library, indoor games, a pastry shop, and complimentary Wi-Fi. An open sea-view terrace is available for special events, making it an ideal venue for both leisure and business travelers.
Situated close to major attractions like the beach, Chinese fishing nets, St. Francis Church, and the Parade Ground, the hotel is also a short drive from the Synagogue and Mattancherry Palace. The property is conveniently located 40 km from Cochin International Airport and 12 km from Ernakulam Railway Station.
Mr. Jibran also highlighted the growing appeal of Fort Kochi as a year-round destination. “Fort Kochi has always been a favourite among international tourists, especially from Europe. However, in recent years, it has also attracted Indian tourists, who are increasingly interested in the heritage accommodations we offer.”
In addition to The Old Court House, Abad Hotels recently relaunched their first property, Abad Fort, which originally opened in 1982. The revamped hotel now features 28 rooms, including 2 suites, a multi-cuisine restaurant, and two banquet halls, further solidifying Fort Kochi’s reputation as a prime destination for heritage tourism.
With the launch of The Old Court House, Abad Hotels and Resorts continues to enhance the cultural and historical appeal of Fort Kochi, offering visitors a unique blend of past and present.
