The 16th ATOAI Adventure Convention will spotlight Arunachal Pradesh and Northeast India as top adventure tourism destinations in India.
The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) will hold its 16th Annual Adventure Convention from December 3 to 8, 2024, in the scenic town of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. This six-day event will attract adventure tourism professionals from across India to explore Arunachal’s vast potential as a premier destination for adventure tourism.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has voiced strong support for the event, viewing it as an opportunity to spotlight the state’s untapped tourism potential, boost the local economy, and gain international recognition. Similarly, State Tourism Minister P.D. Sona emphasized the role of adventure tourism in economic growth, cultural preservation, and sustainable development, envisioning a future where Arunachal stands out on the global adventure tourism map.
The convention’s agenda is packed with panel discussions, interactive sessions, and awards honoring excellence in the adventure tourism industry. Industry leaders will collaborate with local operators to develop sustainable tourism models for the region. A highlight of the event includes exclusive familiarization (FAM) trips, allowing attendees to experience the state’s pristine and unexplored terrains firsthand.
Before the convention, a specialized adventure guide training program will be held in Itanagar, led by experts to strengthen local capacity in adventure tourism. ATOAI will also unveil its strategic roadmap for tourism growth and investment in Arunachal Pradesh.
Mr. Ajeet Bajaj, President of ATOAI, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to responsible adventure tourism, highlighting Arunachal’s unique natural beauty as a prime opportunity to promote sustainable practices. “Arunachal Pradesh offers unparalleled beauty and adventure potential, providing a model for responsible tourism that benefits local communities,” Bajaj remarked.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, the convention will aim for a net-zero environmental footprint. This year’s event will also emphasize Border Tourism, with delegates visiting historic sites like Bumla Pass. Attendees will also tour the renowned NIMAS facility in Dirang, which provides world-class adventure training programs designed to equip youth and local operators with essential skills.
Mr. Oken Tayeng, ATOAI North East Chair, emphasized the importance of responsible tourism in supporting local communities. “By focusing on sustainability and creating employment for our youth, we ensure adventure tourism both preserves the natural and cultural heritage and contributes to long-term prosperity,” he noted.
As part of the 16th annual convention ATOAI invited application for the prestigious adventure tourism awards in various categories includes, Best Practices & Excellence in Adventure Tourism; Pathfinder Award; Sustainability Champion; Responsible Adventure Tourism Champion Award; Trailblazer Award; Trailblazer Woman Entrepreneur and Spirit of Adventure. These awards celebrate achievements in sustainability, innovation, responsible tourism, and leadership. The nomination deadline is November 12, 2024, and applicants are encouraged to include supporting materials.
