Aurangabad Gears Up for the 38th IATO Annual Convention

The 38th IATO Annual Convention is poised to make its mark in Chhattrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra, from September 29th to October 2nd, 2023. The convention’s theme, “Inbound Tourism and Emerging Sustainable Trends,” was unveiled by Mr. Rajiv Mehra, President of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO).

The opulent Welcom Hotel by ITC Hotels Rama International has been chosen as the host hotel for all activities spanning three days, including registration, the inaugural function, business sessions, and evening programs. The convention promises a distinguished guest list, with the honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Eknath Shinde, confirming his attendance to inaugurate the event. Mr Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr Girish Dattatray Mahajan, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, Mr. Ambadas Eknathrao Danve, Leader of Opposition, and senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and Government of Maharashtra will also grace the occasion. Mr. Mehra anticipates active participation, with approximately 15 states expected to join the convention. Deputy Chief Minister Mr Ajit Pawar will be present for the Valedictory session on October 1st, 2023.

IATO: Nurturing India’s Tourism Landscape

The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) stands as the National Apex Body of Tour Operators in India, boasting a diverse membership that spans the country. The association’s membership includes inbound tour operators, travel agents, hotel chains, airlines, tourist transport operators, travel press and media, tourism educational institutes, and State Government Tourism Departments/State Tourism Development Corporations. Collectively, IATO’s membership has a significant influence on over 90% of all inbound tourism into India. IATO’s Annual convention holds a prestigious place on the Indian tourism calendar, consistently drawing over 900 delegates each year.

Mr. Mehra emphasized the meticulous organization of an array of post-convention and spouse tours, designed to showcase the wonders of Maharashtra. These tours will include visits to Ajanta and Ellora Caves, Shirdi, Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, Lonar Crater, Shani Shingnapur Temple, Trimbakeshwar Temple, Sula Vineyards, and more. These immersive experiences will empower IATO members to enrich their itineraries and promote these destinations in both domestic and international markets.

Charting New Heights: Expectations for the 38th IATO Annual Convention

Mr. Rajnish Kaistha, Senior Vice President and Chairman of the convention expressed immense enthusiasm for the event. He anticipates the participation of around 900-1000 delegates from across the nation, including senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and various states, as well as industry leaders, tourism and hospitality professionals, and representatives from the travel trade media. Additionally, five post-convention tours are being organized to explore various sectors, reflecting the growing interest among state governments in reinstating inbound tourism.

The convention’s agenda will encompass discussions on pressing industry issues during carefully curated business sessions. Experts from diverse fields will contribute to these deliberations. An integral part of the convention, the Marketing Innovation Competition at ITC Rama International, aims to stimulate creativity and the production of high-quality Video CDs, posters, and brochures. These materials will be targeted at state governments, tour operators, hotels, and the travel media, with the competition’s awards recognizing outstanding work, emphasizing creativity and design.

Celebrating Responsible Tourism

Mr. Sanjay Razdan, Honorary Secretary and Co-Chairman of the Convention emphasized that alongside substantive discussions during business sessions, the convention will feature the “IATO Run for Responsible Tourism” on October 1st, with awards honoring winners and runners-up in various categories. Evening entertainment programs are also on the agenda for all three days, providing delegates with a well-deserved respite from their year-round busy schedules. Notably, the convention will host the Indian Tourism Fair (Travel Mart) on September 30th and October 1st, 2023, at Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels, Rama International, Chattrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), the convention’s venue. This fair will facilitate interactions between IATO members, state tourism departments, and other stakeholders, fostering collaboration and promoting tourism.
