Bhopal to Host World Rose Convention 2028, Marking a Historic First for India

In a proud moment for India and the global horticultural community, the city of Bhopal has been officially announced as the host of the World Rose Convention 2028. The ceremonial handover took place at the close of the World Rose Convention 2025 in Fukuyama, Japan recently.

Organized by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) every three years, this prestigious convention brings together Rose enthusiasts, breeders, garden designers, and botanical experts from around the globe. The event is a vibrant platform for sharing knowledge, fostering international camaraderie, and celebrating a shared passion for roses through garden tours, expert sessions, and cultural showcases.

The closing ceremony of the 2025 convention in Fukuyama, themed “Roses for the Future – A New Chapter Begins in Fukuyama,” celebrated the spirit of “Community Spirit through Roses.” This philosophy was inspired by local residents who planted 1,000 roses as a symbol of peace and collective goodwill. This spirit now extends across global borders, spreading a message of sustainability and harmony for future generations.

India’s delegation, representing the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB), made a notable impression at the event. The team was led by Mr. Sheo Shekhar Shukla IAS, Principal Secretary of Tourism & Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh, and included Mr. Ramkumar, Consul General of India at Fukuoka, Mr. Vivek Jude, Deputy Director of Events & Marketing, MPTB, and Mr. Mahendra Pratap Singh of Travel India Tours.

Over 500 international delegates from countries including Australia, Japan, the UK, Finland, South Korea, and several European nations attended the grand Farewell Dinner & Awards Show. During the ceremony, the WFRS flag was symbolically handed over to Bhopal, officially marking it as the next host city.

In a significant additional highlight for the country, Mr. Sushil of India was announced as the new President of the World Federation of Rose Societies, further underscoring India’s growing leadership in the global floriculture and botanical space.

This international honor places Madhya Pradesh and India at the forefront of global horticultural tourism. It provides an unparalleled opportunity to showcase the country’s rich natural heritage, garden culture, and renowned hospitality to a worldwide audience in 2028.

Participation in the World Rose Convention is open to everyone, including amateur gardeners, flower lovers, professionals, and curious travelers. The event encourages people to join local and national horticultural societies to become part of the worldwide rose-loving community.

Bhopal 2028 promises to be a celebration of floral excellence, sustainability, and international friendship, all rooted in the timeless charm of the rose.
