Canberra to host ‘Flight’ – a spectacular drone sky show on 24th January

The National Capital Authority (NCA) and the Australian Government together bring a first-of-its[1]kind Drone Show to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra.

‘FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow and Night Markets’, a free community event, will take place over three evenings, starting 25th to 27th January, and bring together a Drone SkyShow consisting of a total of 600 drones, night markets, food & drink stalls, musicians and roving live performers.

In an Australian first, the Drone SkyShow will be presented as a trilogy of stories each night to captivate audiences of all ages. Crafted by the team at AGB Creative, the production will depict a vast array of Australian experiences and stories across a trilogy of shows. The captivating drone choreography will be set to a bespoke soundtrack, ensuring a truly multi-sensory experience. Each 12-minute show will be played at intervals over the three nights so that it can be viewed by the whole community at the event hub, located at Commonwealth Place. If attendees would prefer to avoid crowds, the Drone SkyShow will be visible from the central basin shoreline of Lake Burley Griffin and Mount Ainslie.

Following an open tender process, the NCA has engaged AGB Creative to craft the Drone SkyShow. AGB has a substantial track record of presenting large-scale Drone Shows and has been behind Vivid Light Sydney, and Expo 2020 Al Wasl Plaza Dubai, among many others.

There will be a midsummer night where crowds can expect multicultural cuisines and gourmet food stalls, one-of-a-kind clothing, and locally made and designed art, jewellery, and homewares. There will also be vendors of delicious and decadent desserts and of course, ice cream. A variety of other restaurants and bars will also be in operation in the area.

Anthony Bastic AM, Creative Director of AGB Creative says “The creative intent is not just to entertain but to enlighten, engage, and inspire. “Flight” seeks to connect people with the heart of Australia, using the canvas of the night sky to tell a story that is both uniquely Australian and universally significant.”

Sally Barnes, Chief Executive of, the National Capital Authority says “The National Capital Authority (NCA) is delighted to join hands with the Australian Government through the National AustraliaDay Council in bringing FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow and Night Markets to Canberra.
