Dr. K.V Rajendra., I.A.S., a 2013 batch IAS Officer of the Karnataka cadre, has been appointed as the new Director of the Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka. He will also hold the additional charge as the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. Before this, he was the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Mysuru District.
Dr. K.V. Rajendra, a native of Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, completed his schooling at Ranebennur and earned his MBBS degree from J.J.M. Medical College, Davanagere. He began his administrative career as the Assistant Commissioner of Puttur Sub Division after undergoing probation training at Bidar. He later served as the CEO of Belagavi Zilla Panchayat for three years before being appointed as the District Collector of the Coastal District of Dakshina Kannada on July 28, 2020. He was transferred to Mysuru as the Deputy Commissioner on October 22, 2022. Additionally, he had a brief stint as an Assistant Secretary in the Department of Fertilizers with the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India.
Dr. Rajendra cracked the civil services examination with a 32nd rank, becoming the Karnataka topper. At 39 years old, he is married to a medical graduate and has a daughter. He enjoys movies in different languages, exploring unique content on OTT platforms, and is a die-hard cricket fan, who is passionate about playing tennis and badminton, having competed at zonal levels.
With a keen interest in tourism, Dr Rajendra was pivotal in launching the Swadeshi Darshan project in Mysuru and several other initiatives to enhance the city’s tourism profile. He plans to bring about more development in various spheres of the state’s tourism sector.
