Dr. V. P. Jeyaseelan, IAS, appointed as Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation

Dr. V. P. Jeyaseelan, IAS, has taken charge as Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), moving into the role from his previous posting as Joint Commissioner (Health), Greater Chennai Corporation. The appointment comes as part of a broader state administrative reshuffle, and places him at the helm of the state’s tourism and destination-development strategy, with an early focus on heritage tourism, eco-tourism, and strengthening the overall visitor experience across Tamil Nadu.

Reflecting on his outgoing assignment, Dr. Jeyaseelan described his time at the Greater Chennai Corporation as a valuable learning experience, noting that his work in Solid Waste Management and Urban Health had given him deep exposure to urban governance and public administration, and that it had been a privilege and a matter of pride to serve from the historic Ripon Building.

An officer of the 2014 batch, Tamil Nadu cadre, Dr. Jeyaseelan entered the service as a Direct Recruit through the UPSC Civil Services Examination. He holds an M.A. in Tamil and a Ph.D., and over twelve years of service has held five documented postings across four locations. He served as District Collector of Virudhunagar District from February 2023 to June 2025, and has also held charge as Commissioner of Thoothukudi Corporation and as Additional Director of Survey and Land Records, before taking over as Joint Commissioner (Health), Greater Chennai Corporation, in July 2025.

With this latest appointment, Dr. Jeyaseelan brings this wide-ranging administrative background – spanning urban governance, land administration, district leadership, and public health – to Tamil Nadu Tourism, as the state looks to build on its strengths in heritage sites, UNESCO World Heritage monuments, eco-tourism, and medical value travel.
