Aimed to mark the completion of 30-long years of bilateral relations between India and South Africa and with more and more Indians jet-setting to the Rainbow Nation, South African Tourism hosted a roadshow in Kolkata on February 13.
India has emerged as the sixth-largest global source market for South Africa in the post-pandemic world. According to Neliswa Nkani, Hub Head, Middle East, India, and South-East Asia, “We are making sure that there is something in South Africa for all segments of travellers in the New Year. Kolkata figures as one of the fastest growing tourist markets for South Africa and the ease of travel norms is serving as the major motivator for a steady flow of travellers. There are leisure and business travellers, those visiting friends and relatives as well as solo travellers from the city of Kolkata.”
South Africa has a wide range of unexplored destinations for Indian travellers. Neliswa Nkani said, “We offer a push to destinations and do not package any of these destinations. The amazing destination of Limpopo has wildlife reserves and bushveld and is not fully explored. Lying on the banks of river Limpopo, the destination is on the borders of Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Mozambique. Another novel destination that should not be missed out is Northern Cape which prides itself on having Augrabies Falls, one of the best waterfalls in the country. The waterfall is on river Orange, the largest river in the country. Northern Cape enjoys a rich legacy for harboring diamond mines. There is the fascinating destination of The Free State, around a four-hour drive from Pretoria. It is replete with picturesque lakes, open farmlands, and the vast rocky mountain area of the East Highlands. One can get to view snow-capped mountains in The Free State.”
The Rainbow Country forms the home to the largest diamond in the world. Neliswa Nkani further said, “We are highlighting heritage getaways like Freedom Park, Palace of Justice, and Table Mountain. The destinations associated with Gandhiji are a big hit for Indian travellers.”
The country receives the highest number of Indian visitors from Mumbai and New Delhi. Neliswa Nkani further said, “We have the most number of global visitors from the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Around 50,000 Indian tourists made it to South Africa last year. We are eyeing around 72 percent rise in Indian tourist arrivals in the current year.”
