Global Tourism Networking: GITM 2024 Ignites Tourism Renaissance

The inaugural day of the highly anticipated Goa International Travel Mart (GITM) 2024 commenced at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, setting the stage for a new era in Goa’s tourism landscape. A key focus of this year’s GITM was on regenerative tourism, emphasizing sustainable practices that prioritize the restoration and revitalization of local ecosystems and communities. Additionally, GITM highlighted the significance of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism in Goa, boasting world-class infrastructure ideal for corporate gatherings and international conferences. Furthermore, Goa’s allure as a wedding destination was underscored, drawing couples from around the globe with its blend of rich cultural heritage, warm hospitality, and impeccable services.

The day commenced with the grand inauguration of the Goa Tourism stall, symbolizing the state’s commitment to showcasing its rich cultural heritage and diverse tourism offerings. The stall was inaugurated by esteemed dignitaries including Mr. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director Tourism & Managing Director GTDC, Mr. Parag Rangnekar, Member of the Goa Tourism Board, Mr Jack Sukheeja, President-elect of TTAG, Mr. Ralph Desouza, Chairman of Desouza Group of Hotels, Mr Mark Mendes, Member of the Goa Tourism Board, Mr Carlos Desouza, Convenor of CII, Mr Deepak Narvekar, and Deputy General Manager of GTDC.

Following the inauguration, attendees were treated to a thought-provoking knowledge-sharing session by Travel Trends focusing on Regenerative Tourism, exploring the evolving landscape of tourism in Goa and providing valuable insights into emerging trends and strategies for driving the industry forward.

The highlight of the day was the keynote address by Mr. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director Tourism & Managing Director GTDC, shedding light on Regenerative Tourism. With a focus on sustainability and responsible travel practices, Mr Anchipaka outlined Goa’s vision for a tourism sector that not only thrives economically but also preserves the state’s natural and cultural heritage for future generations.

With a robust turnout of 65 international buyers and 80 domestic buyers, GITM 2024 has attracted a diverse array of participants from around the globe, including delegates from different parts of India and various countries such as Germany, United Arab Emirates, Italy, Norway, Thailand, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, United States, Zimbabwe, Finland, Nepal, Kuwait, South Africa, Spain, France, Turkey, Slovakia, Netherlands, Belgium, Russia, Vietnam, Kenya, Oman, Bahrain, Hungary, Australia, Republic of Korea, Singapore, and more. Among this global gathering, Goa emerges as a pioneer in Regenerative Tourism, signalling a paradigm shift towards sustainable practices.

As the curtains close on the first day of GITM 2024, anticipation mounts for the second day, promising more enriching sessions, productive engagements, and exciting opportunities to shape the future of tourism in Goa and beyond. The second day of GITM 2024 is poised to further enrich the experience of visitors and industry specialists alike with esteemed panellists discussing various topics including strategy, branding, promotion, and skill development in the tourism sector.
