Growing Interest in Heritage Tourism across India, Says President Draupadi Murmu

In a recent address to the joint sitting of the two houses of Parliament, the President of India, Ms. Droupadi Murmu, shed light on the burgeoning interest in heritage tourism across India. Noting the achievements and initiatives of the Government of India over the past decade in fostering tourism, pilgrimage destinations, and historical sites, President Murmu underscored the sector’s significance in providing employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.

“The tourism sector has witnessed unprecedented growth in the last 10 years,” remarked President Murmu. “This surge can be attributed to India’s growing global stature and enhanced connectivity, with the construction of airports facilitating easier access to various destinations. The North East region, in particular, is experiencing a surge in tourist arrivals, while there is heightened excitement surrounding the Andaman-Nicobar and Lakshadweep islands.”
