Gujarat Tourism Gets New Chief: Dr. Vipin Garg Takes Over as MD, TCGL 

In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the Government of Gujarat has announced the appointment of Dr. Vipin Garg, IAS, as the new Managing Director of the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd. (TCGL) and Commissioner of Tourism, based in Gandhinagar. Dr. Garg replaces Prabhav Joshi, IAS, who has been transferred and appointed as the Municipal Commissioner of the Junagadh Municipal Corporation after completing his tenure at the helm of the state’s tourism corporation.

Dr. Vipin Garg is a highly regarded civil servant belonging to the 2016 batch of the Gujarat cadre. He brings a unique blend of medical expertise and administrative acumen to his new role. Born on August 12, 1991, and hailing fromSawai Madhapur in Rajasthan, Dr. Garg holds an M.B.B.S. degree in Medicine and Surgery from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, making him one of the notable medical professionals to successfully transition into the Indian administrative ecosystem.

Prior to this high-profile appointment in the tourism sector, Dr. Garg has served the Gujarat administration in several key capacities. As District Magistrate and Collector of Tapi (Vyara), he oversaw comprehensive district administration, public welfare, and law and order. As District Development Officer (DDO), he spearheaded rural development, public health initiatives, and local governance. He also gained foundational ground-level administrative exposure early in his career as an Assistant Collector, and served a brief stint on central deputation as Assistant Secretary with the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India, New Delhi.

With this transition, Dr. Garg takes charge of Gujarat’s tourism portfolio at a crucial time. Industry insiders expect his analytical background and diverse administrative experience to drive strategic growth in the state’s eco-tourism, heritage, and medical tourism sectors. Meanwhile, outgoing MD Prabhav Joshi takes charge at the Junagadh Municipal Corporation, where he will oversee urban development and civic governance.
