Ms Ila Tripathi, an Indian Administrative Service officer from the 2017 batch of Telangana cadres, has officially taken charge as the new Director of Telangana Tourism. Before this, she was working as the District Collector of Mulugu district in Telangana.
Born and raised in Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, Ms Tripathi is an alumna of City Montessori School, Aliganj. She graduated as an Information Technology (IT) engineer from Jaypee Institute of IT, Noida. Her father, the late PN Tripathi, was an Indian Forest Service officer, and her mother, Girija Tripathi, is a homemaker.
Before entering the civil services, Ms. Tripathi worked as a financial consultant, which involved extensive travel. During her third year of engineering, she attended the London School of Economics under a summer school exchange program, where she completed a certificate course in finance and accounting. On her second attempt at the civil services examination in 2016, she secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 51, with sociology as her optional subject in the UPSC (Mains).
In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Tripathi is a voracious reader and enjoys cooking fusion cuisine. She has also authored a book titled “71 TO 51: My Journey from Failure to IAS & Your Journey to Success,” which includes details about her personal life and love story. Among her favourite books are “Small is Beautiful” by British economist E.F. Schumacher and “Field Notes of a Civil Servant” by Sumita Dawra. Swimming is another pastime she enjoys.
Ms Tripathi, who gained national attention in October 2022, was serving as the Additional Collector at Mulugu when she chose to deliver her first child at a local government hospital. This decision, made alongside her husband Bhavesh Mishra, an IAS officer and former District Collector of Mulugu, showcased their belief in the public healthcare system and became an inspiring example for many in the district.
Ms Tripathi’s husband, Bhavesh Mishra, IAS (2015), currently holds the position of Deputy Secretary to the Government in the Information Technology, Electronics & Communication Department of Telangana.
As the new Director of Telangana Tourism, Ms Ila Tripathi is expected to bring her diverse experiences and innovative approach to further enhance the tourism sector in the state.
