Kandula Durgesh named as the New Tourism Minister of Andhra Pradesh


Mr. Kandula Lakshmi Durgesh Prasad, popularly known as Kandula Durgesh, has been named the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography, in the newly sworn Andhra Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister Mr Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
In a significant political development, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has unveiled his new 24-member cabinet following the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) sweeping victory in the recent elections. The announcement was made on social media platform X, where the Chief Minister expressed his optimism and confidence in his newly formed team.


“Congratulations to all my colleagues in the cabinet on being assigned their portfolios,” Naidu stated. “Together, we have taken a solemn oath to serve the people of Andhra Pradesh and usher in an era of People’s Governance. I’m confident that you shall strive to deliver on our people’s expectations as Ministers. My best wishes to you all as you embark on this journey of service and devotion.”
Mr. Durgesh’s appointment is part of this overall strategizing of the visionary administrator Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu. Durgesh brings his experience, insight and deep understanding of politics to his new responsibility to make Andhra Pradesh a prominent tourism destination in South Asia.


Mr Durgesh has pledged to develop Andhra Pradesh into a prominent tourism hub, akin to Gujarat and Rajasthan. Speaking to the media in Rajamahendravaram on June 14, 2024, he emphasized his commitment to unlocking the full potential of the state’s tourism sector. Additionally, Durgesh highlighted his ambitious plans to attract the cinema industry to Andhra Pradesh, a move expected to bolster local economies and promote cultural exchange.


Kandula Durgesh, a prominent Jana Sena Party leader in Andhra Pradesh, has a storied political career. Durgesh was elected from the Nidadavolu constituency in East Godavari district., marking a significant milestone in his political journey. An alumnus of Andhra University, Durgesh holds a Master of Arts in Economics.


The film industry has already shown interest in Andhra Pradesh, with ongoing shoots in picturesque locations like Rajahmundry, Maredumilli, Visakhapatnam, and Araku. The local film industry anticipates that the government, under Durgesh’s leadership, will offer more opportunities to shoot in the state’s diverse and beautiful locales, potentially transforming Andhra Pradesh into a major cinema tourism hub in the country.
