Indian Outbound sector Gains Enhanced Air Connectivity as Maldivian Adds Fifth Weekly Flight to Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi

Increased frequency strengthens travel links between South India and the Maldives, boosting tourism and business opportunities

Travellers from Kerala now have enhanced connectivity to the Maldives as Maldivian, the national carrier of the Maldives, launches its fifth weekly frequency to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TRV) and Cochin International Airport (COK) from Malé, effective 19th December 2025.

The expanded service brings the total to five weekly flights between Kerala and the Maldives, offering Indian travellers significantly more flexibility for business trips, and popular island holiday getaways.

Boosting Kerala’s International Connectivity

The additional flight frequency addresses the growing demand from Indian travellers seeking quick access to the Maldives while providing Maldivian visitors easier options to reach Kerala’s renowned Ayurveda centers, medical tourism visits to healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and tourist destinations.

“This enhanced connectivity is particularly beneficial for Kerala’s tourism and healthcare sectors,” said travel industry sources. “The fifth frequency ensures Indian travellers have more convenient scheduling options, reduced waiting times, and better connections for both short leisure breaks and extended island holidays.”

Modern Aircraft and Competitive Fares

All flights on these routes operate using Maldivian’s Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring 152 seats including 14 Premium Economy and 138 Economy seats. With a flight time of just over an hour, passengers can enjoy quick, direct connections without the inconvenience of multi-stop journeys.

For Indian travellers, Maldivian’s return fares start from:

  • Kochi (COK): USD 176 (approximately ₹14,850)
  • Thiruvananthapuram (TRV): USD 232 (approximately ₹19,550)

Full-Service Experience

Unlike many budget carriers, Maldivian offers comprehensive full-service amenities on all flights:

Economy Class passengers receive:

  • 20kg baggage allowance
  • Complimentary hot meal and beverage service

Premium Economy passengers enjoy:

  • Priority check-in
  • 30kg baggage allowance
  • Free date changes
  • Extra legroom and reclinable seating
  • Special meal and beverage service

Strategic Importance for South India

The expanded service underscores the strong bilateral ties between India and the Maldives, particularly the historical and cultural connections with Kerala. The Maldives remains one of the most popular international destinations for Indian tourists, with Kerala serving as a major gateway.

The enhanced frequency is expected to boost:

  • Outbound tourism from Kerala to the Maldives, especially among honeymooners and luxury travellers
  • Medical tourism traffic from the Maldives to Kerala’s renowned hospitals and Ayurveda centers
  • Business travel between the two regions
  • Educational exchanges as many Maldivian students pursue higher education in Kerala

Convenience for Indian Travellers

The fifth weekly frequency provides Indian passengers with greater flexibility to plan trips around work schedules, family commitments, or festive holidays without being constrained by limited flight availability. The improved connectivity is particularly valuable during peak travel seasons when demand for Maldives holidays surges among Indian tourists.

With Cochin International Airport being one of the world’s first fully solar-powered airports and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport serving as a key gateway to South India, both airports are well-positioned to handle the increased traffic.

Growing India-Maldives Air Corridor

This expansion reinforces the Maldives’ commitment to maintaining strong connectivity with its largest source market—India. The enhanced service positions Maldivian as a preferred carrier for Indian travellers seeking convenient, affordable, and comfortable access to the island nation.

For bookings and more information, Indian travellers can visit Maldivian’s website or contact local travel agents. The airline continues to offer competitive rates and superior service standards, making the Maldives more accessible than ever for travelers from Kerala and South India.
