Kerala Tourism promotes Experiential Tourism

The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) of Ernakulam will launch an exclusive initiative to collate data on skilled artisans, dancers and other artists fostering the experiential tourism. Under the responsible tourism mission, the collated data will be available online.

The online directory would have the details of the artists with their name, coordinates, biodata  and details of stage performances. As part of experiential tourism, it will allow the academics, travellers and event organisers reach them directly. The Tourism Department has been working towards promoting experiential tourism wherein travellers get to familiarize with an exotic locale by connecting with the history of the region, culture and people.

Mr. S. Vijayakumar, Secretary, DTPC of Ernakulam stated, “A secure method would be adopted to verify the skill of artists. It would revive old and fading art forms and dances of the region while providing support to the artists in their employment. Kerala has immense potential for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) tourism. And, we believe that this initiative will enable the artisans to showcase the traditional art forms to a global audience, while promoting the cultural heritage of the state.”

“Through this initiative, we are hopeful to boost the experiential tourism across the state. In addition, the vacationers can have enthralling real time experience with ‘voluntourism’ or volunteer tourism by staying in the villages. The initiative will be launched by the end of this month”, S. Vijayakumar further added.
