Malaysia Airlines is embarking on a new phase of its commercial journey, aiming to strengthen its presence in India by introducing three new routes. These routes will connect Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Amritsar (ATQ), Thiruvananthapuram (TRV), and Ahmedabad (AMD) and are scheduled to commence on November 8, November 9, and December 1, 2023, respectively.
This expansion will significantly boost Malaysia Airlines’ point-to-point connectivity from Kuala Lumpur to India, now covering nine key hubs. This enhancement aims to provide passengers with a wider range of travel options and greater flexibility between the two countries. The airline currently operates direct flights to New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi. The new routes will be serviced by Boeing 737-800NG aircraft, featuring 160 seats, including 16 in Business Class and 144 in Economy Class.
To celebrate this expansion, Malaysia Airlines is offering special introductory fares, with all-inclusive return tickets starting at RM999 in Economy Class and RM2,999 in Business Class. These fares can be booked from today until September 9, 2023, for travel between November 8, 2023, and March 31, 2024. Additionally, customers who book during this promotional period will receive up to 50% Bonus Enrich Points.
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), reiterated the airline’s commitment to the Indian market and its aspiration to restore pre-COVID-19 capacity levels by the end of the year. Malaysia Airlines plans to increase flight frequencies to various destinations to support seamless travel within Malaysia and beyond.
In response to the growing demand for travel, the airline will also boost its flight frequencies to key markets, including Australia, China, and ASEAN. Beginning in December 2023, there will be an increase in weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne and Sydney, among other destinations, providing travelers with greater flexibility and choices.
Malaysia Airlines is not only expanding its route network but also introducing new product offerings. MHsports, designed for groups of five or more people traveling for sporting purposes, offers benefits such as special fares, extra baggage allowance, flexible date and time changes, and more. MHcruise, on the other hand, provides discounted fares tailored for selected travel trades and cruise packages, with perks like preferential fares, extra baggage allowance, and flexible booking options.
Additionally, the airline is enhancing offerings from AMAL by Malaysia Airlines, its dedicated Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage arm. Soon, Umrah Plus will be launched, providing free return tickets to selected domestic destinations for international customers during their pilgrimage journey. These initiatives aim to enhance the overall travel experience and cater to a wide range of travelers.
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), commented, “India remains a key market for Malaysia Airlines, hence we are delighted to introduce three new routes into our Indian network, which will provide added convenience for travelers, strengthen our presence in this core market and extend our Malaysian Hospitality service even further. Currently, our average load factor on this route is at 81% YTD July 2023 signifying the growth and confidence for travel between the two markets. We are looking at restoring our pre-COVID-19 capacity in the Indian market by the end of this year and will also look to increase flight frequencies to other destinations as we support seamless travels in Malaysia and beyond.”
