Malaysia Airlines has significantly enhanced its popular Bonus Side Trip (BST) programme, offering international travelers greater flexibility and access to more destinations across the region. The expansion, which includes adding Kuching as the newest domestic stopover option, is designed to boost Malaysia’s appeal as a diverse, multi-destination travel hub.
Kuching Becomes Eighth Domestic Destination

In collaboration with the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), Kuching now stands as the eighth domestic destination available under the premium stopover initiative. This programme allows eligible international passengers transiting through Kuala Lumpur to explore an additional Malaysian city with zero base fare – passengers only pay the required taxes and fees.
With the inclusion of Kuching, travelers can now choose from a total of eight domestic cities, including: Kuala Terengganu, Langkawi, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Alor Setar and Kuantan
These options provide a seamless way for global visitors to experience Malaysia’s rich culture, natural beauty, and heritage within a single itinerary.
Limited-Time Regional Expansion via Firefly

Further boosting regional connectivity, the BST programme has been temporarily extended to include three exciting international destinations operated by Malaysia Airlines’ sister carrier, Firefly: Krabi (KBV)’ Siem Reap (SAI) and Cebu (CEB).
These new routes are available for sale and travel until December 31, 2025. This limited-time addition highlights the strong synergy within the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and its commitment to offering greater convenience and flexibility across its regional network.
Supporting Tourism and Connectivity

Mr. Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines from MAG, commented on the expansion: “The inclusion of Kuching reflects our commitment to showcasing the nation’s rich diversity while strengthening our collaboration with STB to position Sarawak as a key stopover destination. Expanding the programme for a limited time to include Krabi, Siem Reap, and Cebu operated by Firefly, further demonstrates our dedication to enhancing travel flexibility, regional connectivity, and customer choice. This initiative also supports the government’s tourism agenda and efforts to boost inbound travel ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).”
Through the partnership, Malaysia Airlines and STB aim to inspire international visitors to extend their journey and discover Sarawak’s unique biodiversity, lush rainforests, and diverse cultural heritage.
Enhancing the Onboard Experience
Beyond the expanded BST programme, Malaysia Airlines is also focusing on enhancing the passenger experience. Travelers in Economy Class can now pre-book their preferred meals, or enjoy the Best of Asia menu featuring authentic regional flavors, such as the Vietnamese Gà Kho Tàu (fragrant caramelized chicken), available from November 1 to December 31, 2025, on select regional and domestic flights.
Loyalty members are also set to benefit, as Enrich members enjoy 5% off fares, and new members can register for free to begin earning Enrich Points immediately. Booking directly through the Malaysia Airlines website or mobile app unlocks further perks, including exclusive fares, child discounts, and flexible booking options.
