Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), a pioneer in global cruise travel with a 57-year legacy of pushing boundaries, celebrated the christening of Norwegian Viva, the highly anticipated second vessel in the award-winning Prima Class. The event took place in Miami, NCL’s hometown, and marked a significant moment for the company, bringing together local family and friends.
David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, expressed the company’s gratitude towards the entire NCL team, partners, and crew for their contributions to bringing Norwegian Viva to life. The christening ceremony, held at the Company’s LEED® Gold Certified terminal at PortMiami, attracted over 1,500 guests following Norwegian Viva’s debut in August and its inaugural summer season of European voyages.
The Prima Class, committed to groundbreaking ship design and amenities, reflects NCL’s dedication to prioritizing the guest and onboard experience. According to Harry Sommer, president & chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., Norwegian Viva has received exceptional guest satisfaction scores, outshining any new build in the history of the NCL fleet.
Luis Fonsi, Norwegian Viva’s godfather and GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist, officially named and christened the vessel, symbolizing good fortune and safe travels for all aboard. The celebration featured an entertainment lineup with performances by Fonsi and other renowned artists, including Marcello Hernandez, Paulina Rubio, and Pedro Capó.
The christening festivities also included the unveiling and dedication of the Knut Kloster Hall, a newly added installation at the NCL Terminal that pays homage to the Company’s founder and shares details on NCL’s 57-year history of innovation.
Norwegian Viva, at 965 feet long with a capacity for 3,099 guests, offers unique activities such as the three-story Viva Speedway and the Indulge Food Hall. The ship will reposition to San Juan, Puerto Rico, arriving on Dec. 15, 2023, and will offer port-intensive seven-day Caribbean voyages through March 2024. In April 2024, Norwegian Viva will sail Mediterranean and Greek Isles itineraries.
