In a breathtaking display of celebration, Ras Al Khaimah ushered in the New Year by setting two Guinness World Records™ titles with an awe-inspiring drone and fireworks showcase. The dazzling event, which illuminated the night sky along a 4.5km stretch of Ras Al Khaimah’s waterfront, captivated spectators with its extraordinary visuals and innovative techniques.
The mesmerizing eight-minute spectacle combined 1,050 LED drones, floating aquatic fireworks, and acrobatic pyro planes in a never-before-seen extravaganza. Inspired by Ras Al Khaimah’s natural landscapes—the desert, the sea, and the mountains—the show was choreographed to specially composed music, creating a magical atmosphere.
The Emirate, already renowned for its legendary New Year’s Eve fireworks displays, made history once again by breaking the Guinness World Records™ titles for the ‘Longest chain of aquatic floating fireworks’ spanning 5.8km and the ‘Longest straight-line drone display’ covering a total length of 2km.
Raki Phillips, Chief Executive Officer of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, expressed his delight at the world record-breaking celebration, stating, “Breaking two more Guinness World Records™ titles has set the stage for an unforgettable night of celebration, bringing together thousands of visitors and residents. As we kick off the new year, 2023 has been an exceptional year for tourism in Ras Al Khaimah, with numerous achievements and the highest-ever annual number of visitors recorded, propelling the Nature Emirate further in attracting over 3 million annual visitors by 2030.”
The festivities attracted over 50,000 spectators, with hotels across the Emirate fully booked, making it the most visited show to date. Various viewing areas were open to the public, offering family activities, food trucks, and live entertainment. Additionally, the ticketed event experience, SoundFest, featured live bands from around the world, entertaining crowds into the first hours of 2024.
This extraordinary celebration builds on Ras Al Khaimah’s legacy of organizing record-breaking New Year’s Eve events over the past five years and underscores its remarkable growth as a tourism destination. The New Year’s Eve Organizing Committee, led by Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority and comprising teams from Marjan, Ras Al Khaimah Police, Ras Al Khaimah Government Media Office, Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce, Public Works, Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, Al Hamra, and others, ensured the success of this grand spectacle.
