Sajeev Kurup re-elected as President and Shilendran Mohan as new Secretary of Kerala Ayurveda Promotion Society

Mr. Sajeev Kurup, Managing Director of Ayurveda Mana Hospitals has unanimously reelected as the President of Ayurveda Promotion society, and Mr. Shilendran Mohan, Vice President of CGH Earth Hospitals as the secretary for the year 2025–26, during the 6th Annual General Meeting of the Kerala Ayurveda Promotion Society was held at the Society’s office in Kochi on 19th April 2025.

Other elected office bearers include Mr. Aji Alex ( Managing Director, Healing Touch Ayurveda & Yoga Retreat) as Vice President, and Mr. Pradeep Narayanan  (Managing Director, Malika Ayurveda) as Joint Secretaries, while Mr. Ravi Varma (Nagarjuna Ayurveda Centre) was elected as the Treasurer of the society.

Speaking at the AGM, Mr. Sajeev Kurup stated, “Today, Ayurveda has become synonymous with Wellness Tourism, largely due to the international exposure received through Kerala Tourism. However, seasoned Ayurveda practitioners emphasise that the system’s core strength lies in its curative and preventive treatments, beyond just wellness. To fully realise Ayurveda’s potential as a true alternative medicine system, there must be liberal support to develop, practice, and propagate it effectively.”

He further highlighted the challenges faced by the sector, “Global organizations like the WHO, ISCMR, CAMbrella, and the NCCAM in the USA demand evidence-based documentation to validate the efficacy of Ayurveda in treating diseases. Unfortunately, the Ayurveda industry in India has made limited efforts in producing such documentation. Moreover, the industry lacks standardization in both treatment protocols and medicine preparation—even for classical formulations. Addressing these issues requires systematic, practical, and sustained intervention over a period of 5 to 10 years.”

Mr. Kurup also stressed the importance of proactive government involvement, “We’ve seen the impact of decisive government intervention in sunrise sectors like Information Technology and Tourism in Kerala. Ayurveda represents the next frontier—a rich, untapped reservoir of opportunity. Just as the government created infrastructure for IT and launched aggressive marketing for tourism, similar long-term initiatives are essential for unlocking the full potential of Ayurveda.”

The Kerala Ayurveda Promotion Society is registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act, 1955. Its members include a wide range of stakeholders from the Ayurveda ecosystem—such as Ayurveda hospitals, clinics, wellness centres, medicine manufacturers, resorts, and medical stores.

Its vision is to establish “Kerala Ayurveda” as a global superbrand, alongside “Kerala Tourism”, by working closely with the Ministry of AYUSH, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Industries, Government of Kerala, Department of Education, and the Kerala Tourism Department.

The Society aims to: Promote authentic Ayurveda practices across Kerala,, Safeguard the interests of all stakeholders involved in the delivery of genuine Ayurveda services, Undertake strategic promotional initiatives to position Ayurveda as a leading Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) system worldwide.
