Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) continues to scale up training regional hoteliers in MICE industry.

On September 27, 2023, the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the training of regional hoteliers in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry.

The SLCB has organized a series of MICE tourism training sessions for regional hoteliers, including those in the Kandy, South, and Cultural Triangle regions. The most recent session took place on September 5, 2023, in the Cultural Triangle area. The objective of these training sessions was to revive and amplify awareness of the importance of Sri Lanka’s MICE industry.

During the inaugural address, Mr. Krishantha Fernando, the General Manager of SLCB, highlighted the optimal utilization of environmental resources in the Cultural Triangle as a key element in tourism development, particularly focusing on major markets like India, China, and Europe.

Distinguished figures from the hospitality and event industry were present, including Mr. Trevin Gomez, a senior hotelier and former president of the Ceylon Hotel School Graduate Association, who focused on Business events and Incentive Travel from a hotelier’s perspective. Mrs. Paddy Paul, Managing Director of Golden Isle Pvt Ltd and a member of SLAPCEO, spoke about Reshaping of MICE Tourism, specifically addressing Technology and HR. Mr. Gihan De Silva, a Corporate Facilitator, trainer, coach, mentoring specialist, and a member of SLAPCEO, discussed experiential Marketing.

A panel discussion on the current state of Business Events, Incentive Travel, and emerging trends was conducted, with participants including Mr. Trevin Gomez, Mr. Asela Wavita, General Manager of Heritance Kandalama, Mr. Kasun Wijerathne, Resident Manager of Aliya Resort & Spa, and Mr. Krishantha Fernando, the General Manager of SLCB. The discussion was moderated by SLAPCEO President Mr. Imran Hassan.

Hoteliers from leading establishments in the Cultural Triangle actively participated in group work and presentations during the training. All participants received certificates of participation, and the event concluded with a group photograph.

The SLCB is committed to continuing these training programs in all regions to ensure that hoteliers are well-prepared to cater to MICE travelers in the upcoming seasons.
