On September 28, 2023, the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) demonstrated its commitment to advancing the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) capabilities of regional hoteliers in the Southern region. This initiative aligns with the goals outlined in the Tourism Act, aiming to enhance the tourism industry.
The SLCB organized a series of training programs throughout the year, with a focus on the Southern region, specifically held at Cinnamon Bey – Beruwela. The primary objective was to raise awareness of the importance of Sri Lanka’s MICE sector as a driver of economic growth. The program was themed “New Dimensions of MICE – Driving Sri Lanka with Sustainable Innovation” and was tailored to suit the specific needs of the region.
Mr. Krishantha Fernando, the General Manager of SLCB, emphasized that ongoing training is an effort to foster collaboration between entrepreneurs and MICE strategic partners from various sectors. The emphasis is on sustainability and innovation, which are vital components of the industry, enhancing efficiency and competitiveness.
The event included a panel discussion on the current status of MICE and emerging trends, featuring Mr. Krishantha Fernando, Mr. Indika De Silva, Mr. Sisira Senaratne, Mr. Paul Sun, and was moderated by Mr. Imran Hassan.
The program also included presentations on topics such as the technological and HR aspects of reshaping MICE by Mrs. Paddy Paul, MICE from the perspective of hoteliers by Mr. Trevin Gomez, and Experiential Marketing presented by Mr. Gihan de Silva alongside Mrs. Paddy Paul.
The SLCB intends to continue these training programs, extending their coverage to other regions, such as the Cultural Triangle and the Northern region. This initiative aims to equip all hoteliers with the skills and knowledge needed to serve MICE travelers effectively in the upcoming seasons.
