On 22 August 2024, SriLankan Airlines, in collaboration with Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka), organized a memorable event for a group of young Buddhist monks, or ‘Samaneras,’ offering them a special guided airport tour and their first experience boarding an aircraft. This event marks a significant moment leading up to the airline’s 45th anniversary on 1 September 2024.
The group, consisting of monks aged five and above from the Ganewatta Purana Rajamaha Viharaya in Waskadubedda, Deldoova, Kalutara, was accompanied by several Venerable Theros and volunteers from SriLankan Airlines. During their visit to Bandaranaike International Airport, the young monks received an introduction to various ground operations and explored a Sri Lankan Airlines Airbus A320, providing them with their first hands-on experience of the airport and aircraft.
In line with religious customs, the event concluded with a special almsgiving (Dana) and perikarya offering at the airport’s Silk Route Arrival Lounge. The ceremony was attended by Sri Lankan Airlines staff volunteers, senior management, and officials from Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka).
