The second edition of the Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival (TNIKF), organised by Global Media Box in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Tamil Nadu., is scheduled to take place from 12th to 15th August 2023 at the picturesque TTDC Ocean View Mahabalipuram.
The festival will span four exciting days, offering a wide array of activities for visitors of all ages. From kite flying to live music performances, food stalls, kid’s play areas, enthralling Music, and much more, there will be something to captivate every attendee. Marvel at the skill and creativity of professional kite flyers as they paint the skies with vibrant colors and intricate designs. Prepare to be awe-struck by the breathtaking displays that symbolize unity, culture, and the beauty of our planet.
Mr. Sandeep Nanduri IAS, Director, Tourism & Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) said, “This year, we will have around 200 kites from various countries. The festival’s theme of TNIKF 2023 is “Wings of Waves: Save Marine Life, Save Mother Earth” aiming to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our oceans and marine ecosystems
As part of the promotion in the Southern region of Tamil Nadu, a curtain-raiser event will be held at Kanniyakumari. “This will happen a few days before the event at Mamallapuram. Kanniyakumari is a prominent tourism destination so we wanted to have the event there,” he added. A curtain-raiser event wills kickstart the festivities from August 4th to 6th, 2023 at Triveni Sangamam and Chothavilai Beach, Kanyakumari.
Mr. Nanduri also added that the festival would not harm birds or animals in any way. “These are like helium-filled balloons that would be tied by rope to the ground. There is no involvement of banned substances like manjha here. These balloons would fly up to a maximum of 25 feet so there is absolutely no threat to birds,” he said.
Building on last year’s massive success with over 40,000 visitors, the second edition aims to surpass expectations and create unforgettable memories for attendees.
According to Mr. Benedict Savio, Director of Global Media Box, “Tamil Nadu International KITE Festival is a fascinating display of art and culture from around the world. We want to create a unique experience for attendees by showcasing international talent and promoting environmental awareness.” He also added that the 2nd edition of the Tamil Nadu Kite Festival will showcase over 200 kites from renowned international teams from more than eight countries, including Indonesia, France, China, Thailand, and Malaysia, who will showcase their artistic and acrobatic skills in the skies of Chennai.

Professional kite flyers will showcase their talents, crafting breathtaking displays at TNIKF 2023. “I’ve attended several kite festivals across the globe. I am focused on bringing such an eclectic experience here. We also aim to create a dynamic club in Tamil Nadu and a learning space for students to experience how these designer inflatable kites are made,” Savio further added.
To highlight the theme of the event, we are planning to showcase aquatic animal-themed show kites, the event aims to inspire visitors to protect marine life and our planet. “While this is the theme, there are several surprises for the visitors. We want to keep them under wraps,” Savio reveals.
