This marks a remarkable growth of over 150% from 2022 when the sector contributed $583 billion to the economy. Looking ahead a decade, WTTC predicts that the sector will contribute over $4 trillion to China’s economy, demonstrating remarkable growth, outpacing the global compound annual growth rate (CAGR) by nearly 2:1.
The global tourism body also forecasts that the sector will support over 74 million jobs in China in 2023, representing a growth of more than 18% compared to 2022. This figure is just 9% behind the employment levels seen in 2019. By 2033, WTTC predicts that the sector will provide support for more than 31 million additional jobs, reaching a total of almost 106 million jobs, which represents nearly one in seven jobs across China.
