In a landmark collaboration, UN Tourism and Hotelschool The Hague have joined forces to spearhead innovation within the hospitality industry. Through a newly established Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), both entities aim to catalyze innovation and foster new ventures, championing entrepreneurship and education while embarking on open innovation projects geared towards enhancing the tourism sector, with a specific emphasis on hospitality.
Currently, a significant portion, 20%, of entrepreneurs within the UN Tourism Network are directly involved in hospitality, leading some of the most dynamic projects that involve various stakeholders in the industry. Leveraging UN Tourism’s robust innovation network, this partnership seeks to facilitate connections between startups and potential investors, while also promoting knowledge exchange and skill development through collaborative events, communication platforms, and media engagements.
Ms. Natalia Bayona, Executive Director of UN Tourism, underscores the importance of providing a strong foundation for startups within the hospitality sector. She highlights the necessity of tourism education and sector-specific knowledge in developing disruptive and sustainable products. Through collaborative efforts, the aim is to increase the success rate of startups by offering invaluable connections and providing a conducive environment for testing and refining innovative solutions.
