The Ministry of Tourism announces Winners of Best Tourism Villages Competition-2024 The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has announced the winners of the Best Tourism Villages Competition 2024, on 27th September 2024, on the occasion of World Tourism Day. 36 villages from across the country were recognized as winners across 8 categories and Uttarakhand, MP, Kerala, Telangana, Meghalaya, and Chhattisgarh have won multiple awards in different categories in the competition.
Harsil and Gunji villages in Uttarakhand bagged the coveted “Vibrant Village” category of Best Tourism Villages Competition-2024 and Kumarakom in Kerala, the first responsible tourism destination in the country won the award in the category of Agri Tourism along with Karde (Maharashtra), Hansali (Punjab), Supi (Uttarakhand) and Baranagar (West Bengal).
Kadalundi in Kerala bagged the award in the category of Responsible Tourism and shared the award with Dudhani (Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu), Tar Village (Ladakh), Sabarvani (Madhya Pradesh) and Ladpura Khas (Madhya Pradesh).
Dhudmaras in Chhattisgarh, Kuthlur in Karnataka, Aru in Jammu & Kashmir, and Jakhol in Uttarakhand are the joint winners in the Adventure Tourism category, and in the Community Based Tourism category Minicoy Island (Lakshadweep), Sialsuk (Mizoram), Deomali (Rajasthan), and Alpana Gram (Tripura) are declared joint winners.
Sualkuchi (Assam), Pranpur (Madhya Pradesh), Maniabandha (Odisha), Umden (Meghalaya), and Nirmal (Telangana) are the joint winners in the Craft Village category, Hafeshwar village in Gujarat, Andro in Manipur, Mawphlang in Meghalaya, Keeladi in Tamil Nadu and Pura Mahadev in Uttar Pradesh shines in the Heritage village category.
The villages of Ahobilam in Andhra Pradesh, Bandora in Goa, Rikhiapeeth in Jharkhand, Melkalingam Patti in Tamil Nadu, and Somasila in Telangana are the winners in the Spiritual And Wellness category of this year’s Best Tourism Villages Competition-2024.
To promote tourism to the Soul of India (India’s villages), the Best Tourism Villages Competition was introduced in 2023. The focus was to identify and recognize villages that preserve and promote cultural and natural assets through community-based values and commitment to sustainability in all aspects.
The first edition of the Best Tourism Villages Competition in 2023 saw applications from 795 villages. In the second edition of the Best Tourism Villages Competition, 991 applications were received from 30 States and UTs, out of which 36 villages were recognized as winners across 8 categories of the Best Tourism Villages Competition 2024.
