Ms. Valluru Kranthi, IAS, a 2016-batch officer of the Telangana cadre, assumed charge as the Managing Director of the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation (TGTDC) on June 17, 2025. She holds the additional charge of the director, Telangana tourism and took charge at the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation’s corporate office at Himayatnagar, Hyderabad.
Prior to this appointment, Valluru Kranthi served as the District Collector of Sangareddy, a position she held from January 2024. She succeeds Prakash Reddy, a 2010-batch IPS officer, who had been serving as Managing Director of TGTDC since June 2024.

Soon after assuming office, Ms. Kranthi paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Excise, Mr. Jupally Krishna Rao, and also met TGTDC Chairman Mr. Patel Ramesh Reddy. The interactions focused on the corporation’s ongoing initiatives and future strategies to strengthen tourism development in Telangana.
Her appointment comes at a crucial time as Telangana tourism continues to focus on destination development, infrastructure enhancement, experiential tourism, and improved visitor services across the State.
Valluru Kranthi, IAS – Driving Administrative Excellence and Public-Centric Governance in Telangana

A 2016-batch IAS officer, Valluru Kranthi is among the rare few who have ticked every box in a childhood dream list-NTSE scholar, IIT graduate, and IAS officer. Known for her clarity, composure, and consistency, Kranthi’s journey – from being the only girl in an all-boys IIT coaching campus to handling Telangana’s first COVID case as Municipal Commissioner of Karimnagar – has been one of silent strength and unwavering focus.
An alumna of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Ms. Kranthi holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering. Over the course of her career, she has served in key administrative roles across Telangana. Her field training was conducted in Nirmal district for one year, followed by her first posting as Special Officer in Mahabubnagar during the elections. She then became the Municipal Commissioner of Karimnagar, where she demonstrated exceptional crisis management skills, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, she served as Collector in Jogulamba Gadwal before her posting to Sangareddy in January 2024.
Her administrative work has consistently reflected a focus on transparency, accountability, and efficiency. She is widely regarded for her methodical, data-driven leadership style and her ability to translate policy intent into tangible outcomes on the ground. During her district-level assignments, she handled diverse portfolios spanning urban and rural governance, social welfare, infrastructure development, and institutional strengthening.
Ms. Kranthi is also known for her collaborative approach to governance, working closely with line departments, local bodies, and civil society stakeholders to improve citizen interfaces and streamline administrative processes. Her ability to balance regulatory oversight with facilitative governance has been a defining strength throughout her career.
Personal Life and Interests
Hailing from Kurnool, Valluru Kranthi comes from an academically accomplished family. Her parents, Dr. Rangareddy and Dr. Lakshmi, are both doctors who gave her considerable freedom while instilling strong values. Her mother’s words – “As a woman, you should study well, get a good job – it’s important for your own self-confidence and to stand out in society” – stayed with her throughout her journey. She has a sister who is also a doctor, continuing the family’s tradition of excellence in the medical profession.
Ms. Kranthi was both studious and playful during her school years, consistently securing first or second rank and topping district-level and state-level talent tests. She was an all-rounder who loved basketball and was even selected for a state-level tournament in Class 7, though she couldn’t participate as her mother didn’t want her studies to be disrupted. Dance has been another lifelong passion. She learned Bharatanatyam in Class 5 and later studied Kuchipudi for six months during her tenure as Municipal Commissioner in Karimnagar, though she gravitated more towards Bollywood and Western dance styles.
Ms. Kranthi met her husband, Ashish Sangwan, during training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). The couple has a daughter named Arya, and Ms. Kranthi skillfully balances her responsibilities as a senior administrator with her role as a devoted mother.
Beyond her professional commitments, Valluru Kranthi maintains a deep commitment to personal wellness and holistic living. A certified yoga trainer with a 200-hour teacher training certification, she practices yoga regularly. When time doesn’t permit yoga, she goes for walks or plays lawn tennis to maintain physical and mental balance. She is an ardent traveller and trekker, interests that align well with her new role in tourism development. Her love for basketball and lawn tennis reflects her continued dedication to sports and active living.
Interestingly, Ms. Kranthi turned vegetarian in Class 5, influenced by her readings about Mahatma Gandhi and other prominent figures, feeling it wasn’t right to kill birds or animals. Though her entire family eats meat, she maintained this choice for many years. However, due to protein consciousness and food availability in Telangana, where excellent non-vegetarian cuisine is prevalent, she now follows a more flexible dietary approach.
Vision for Telangana Tourism

As Managing Director of TGTDC, Valluru Kranthi is expected to play a significant role in advancing Telangana’s tourism vision by strengthening institutional capacity, improving tourism infrastructure, enhancing visitor experience, and promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism growth across the State. Her personal interests in travel, trekking, and wellness, combined with her appreciation for cultural arts like dance, position her uniquely to understand and develop diverse tourism offerings.
With a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and forward-looking leadership, combined with her commitment to holistic well-being and balanced living, Valluru Kranthi, IAS, continues to be a respected and impactful presence within the administrative framework of Telangana.
