On the occasion of International Women’s Day to further strengthen the social concept of women empowerment various Initiatives have been Implemented.
With the special credit as a pioneer to operate world’s 1st Ladies Special train on it’s Mumbai Suburban Section on 5th May, 1992, the Western Railway will celebrate the ultimate ‘Women Power’ on this International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2018 with several special gifts to it’s valued women passengers and dedicated ladies staff.
Other steps are to make Matunga Road station as WR’s 1st Railway station to be manned by all ladies staff and to depute all ladies ticket checking staff in Mumbai- Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express as well as for the 1st time on Indian Railways, the special installation of a Sanitary Napkin Vending machine in a II AC coach of 12951 Dn Mumbai -New Delhi Rajdhani Express to facilitate women passengers on board which has been provided by W.Rly Women Welfare Organisation.
Narisakthi puraskar 2017, The national level awards given by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India to acknowledge women’s achievements will be conferred to 34 eminent women for their outstanding contribution in the respective field.
Ms. Thinlas Chorol founded the Ladakhi Women’s Travel Company at the age of 29. Ms. Urmila Balawant Apte has spent decades working for the cause of gender equality. Ms. Jayamma Bhandari has been working for over 20 years to rehabilitate sex workers. Ms. Ambika Beri has single-handedly established Art Ichol, India’s only permanent creative retreat for artists, writers and sculptors. Dr. S. Siva Sathya has developed a customized SOS mobile app for the Puducherry region. Ms. Rekha Mishra has single-handedly rescued 953 runaway/ lost/ trafficked children from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) Railway Station in Mumbai. Ms. Gauri Maulekhi has been the lead resource person for animal welfare laws for state agencies.
The awards will presented by the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind at a special ceremony to be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on the occasion of International Women’s Day
