Visit Laos Year 2024 to be officially launched in November

The official launch of the Visit Laos Year 2024 tourism promotion campaign is scheduled for November 23, with the opening ceremony planned to take place at the That Luang Esplanade, as announced by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism. This announcement was made during a national meeting held in Vientiane last week to prepare for the campaign’s launch.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, emphasized the significance of the campaign in attracting tourists to Laos. It is expected that an influx of visitors will not only stimulate the creation of products appealing to tourists but also enhance the quality of services provided in the country.

The program for Visit Laos Year 2024 will offer a variety of cultural activities and traditional festivals in both central and local areas. This initiative aims to boost domestic tourism and inspire more foreign tourists to visit Laos, consequently generating additional revenue for local communities.

According to Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Mrs. Suanesavanh Vignaket, the program for Visit Laos Year 2024 will encompass a total of 75 activities, with 14 of them being conducted at the national level and 61 taking place in various provinces.

In preparation for these events, provincial authorities have undertaken improvements at tourist attractions to meet international standards. Additionally, they have installed road signage on routes connecting to neighboring countries and leading to tourist attractions, enhanced visitor facilities, and introduced outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, and camping. Safety and technical certificates have been issued for tourism operators offering activities like ziplining, climbing, and hot-air ballooning.

Conservation areas are under scrutiny to ensure they are maintained properly, with residents encouraged to play an active role in their preservation. The government’s goal is to attract at least 4.6 million foreign and Lao tourists, with the anticipated result being revenue of USD 712 million.
