Visit My State Uttar Pradesh: An Invitation to Feel, Not Just See

There are destinations you visit, and there are destinations that visit you back – that settle into memory, alter perspective, and leave you changed in ways you cannot quite explain. Uttar Pradesh is the second kind. The Directorate of Tourism, Uttar Pradesh, under the visionary guidance of Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath and the active leadership of Tourism and Culture Minister Shri Jaiveer Singh, has launched the ‘Visit My State Uttar Pradesh’ campaign – an open invitation to tourists and expatriate Indians across the country to move beyond the idea of Uttar Pradesh and into the living, breathing reality of it.

The campaign carries a promise as vast as the state itself. Spiritual energy that has drawn seekers across millennia. A cultural heritage so rich and layered that a lifetime of exploration would still leave stories untold. World-renowned monuments that have entered the global imagination. Rural landscapes alive with traditions, handicrafts, and self-help groups whose products carry the full spirit of Vocal for Local. Wellness tourism that draws from ancient knowledge and natural abundance. And woven through all of it, a hospitality so instinctive and so genuine that visitors do not merely pass through – they belong, however briefly, to something larger than themselves.

Uttar Pradesh has also emerged, perhaps unexpectedly to those who have not yet discovered it, as one of India’s most sought-after destination wedding locations. Grand historic havelis, spiritual cities glowing with ceremonial light, magnificent forts, and charming hill and riverside destinations combine to make the state an ideal setting for life’s most significant celebrations. When the occasion demands grandeur with soul, Uttar Pradesh answers.

Ever wondered how much one state can offer? The honest answer is: more than you can imagine. In Uttar Pradesh, every journey unfolds differently. One day you are walking through centuries of history; the next you are soaking in living traditions, exploring natural landscapes, tasting regional flavours that carry the memory of entire eras, or discovering stories that have quietly shaped generations. The state is not a single destination – it is a collection of endless possibilities, each one waiting for the traveller curious enough to seek it out.

A significant new chapter in that story was written recently in Lucknow, where Uttar Pradesh Tourism signed a landmark agreement with the Royal Government of Bhutan for the development of a Bhutanese Temple and Pilgrim Guest House near Sarnath – one of Buddhism’s most sacred sites, where the Buddha delivered his first sermon over 2,500 years ago. The agreement, signed in the presence of Mr. Jaiveer Singh, Mr. Amrit Abhijat, Additional Chief Secretary for Tourism, Culture and Religious Affairs, Dr. Ved Pati Misra, Director General of Uttar Pradesh Tourism, Mr. Mridul Chaudhary, Special Secretary and Director of Tourism, and Mr. Pushpa Kumar K., Director of Eco Tourism, adds a profound new international dimension to Varanasi’s growing stature on the global Buddhist pilgrimage circuit. The Bhutanese delegation was led by Ms. Tashi Peldon, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Royal Bhutanese Embassy, New Delhi, accompanied by Ms. Chimi Wangmo, Minister Counsellor (Finance), and Mr. Ugen Namgyel, Joint Secretary for Indo-Bhutan Monastic Affairs, Central Monastic Body of Bhutan. The initiative deepens the spiritual and cultural bond between India and Bhutan and places Sarnath at the centre of an expanding network of international Buddhist heritage.

Varanasi, of course, holds more than its ghats and temples. Within the city stands Banaras Hindu University – one of Asia’s largest residential universities, established in 1916, spanning over 1,300 acres, and carrying a legacy of learning, culture, and intellectual achievement that continues to inspire students from across India and the world. For the traveller who thinks they know Varanasi, BHU is a reminder that the city’s depths are inexhaustible.

And perhaps that is Varanasi’s greatest truth – and Uttar Pradesh’s greatest gift to every traveller who arrives with an open heart. Here, every sunrise arrives like a quiet reassurance: that no matter how heavy the past was, a new day always finds a way to begin. People keep coming back to Varanasi not because they run out of things to see, but because they never run out of things to feel.

Come to Uttar Pradesh. Not just to see it. To feel it.
