Seclude Hotels Unveils Fort Unchagaon, a 300-Year-Old Heritage Property in Uttar Pradesh

Seclude Fort Unchagaon brings a historic family estate into the brand’s portfolio, combining heritage, contemporary hospitality and immersive experiences.

Seclude Hotels has announced the launch of Seclude Fort Unchagaon, a 300-year-old heritage fort in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Set across 19 acres of mango orchards and around two hours from Delhi NCR, the 22-room property marks Seclude’s most ambitious heritage restoration to date.

Fort Unchagaon extends a philosophy the brand has followed from the start – building its portfolio around distinctive properties with character and a strong connection to their surroundings. From heritage villas in Shimla and Kerala to royal properties in Hampi and Nahan, Seclude has consistently sought out spaces with a story already built in. A 300-year-old family fort takes that approach to its most ambitious setting yet.

“One of the things that sealed it for me was realizing that I was staying in a room where Jawaharlal Nehru had once stayed. I could see how the old kings lived through the photographs on the walls, and everywhere I looked, the spaces were bursting with potential, waiting to be explored. Taking on a property like this is our biggest challenge and our greatest joy – figuring out how to bring all of that history, character and possibility to life. How could I say no?” said Ramit Sethi, Co-Founder, Seclude Hotels.

The restoration has been guided by a simple principle: preserve what cannot be recreated. The fort’s original architecture, royal courts, family collections, and heirlooms remain central to the property – the Tiger Room retains hunting artefacts from the estate’s royal past, while a former Air India lounge now houses vintage travel memorabilia. Family photographs, books, cameras, and other objects collected across generations are found throughout the property.

“As we entered the fort on our first visit, I knew I wanted it. The massive gates, the grand scale, the feeling of the place – I knew immediately that this was something we could never create anywhere else. And then we got to work, redesigning the spaces and bringing out the details that nod to its 300 years of history. Because that is something we could never build in our lifetimes, and that is what makes Unchagaon so special,” said Rohit Sethi, Founder, Seclude Hotels.

The property is divided into three wings, each reflecting a different facet of its royal past – The Royal Wing, The King’s Court, and The Queen’s Courtyard. As with every Seclude property, the guest experience is built around three pillars: Design, Food, and Experience. Design works with the fort’s existing architecture, modernising the spaces while layering in contemporary detail; Food brings local flavours into the stay; and Experience takes guests deeper into the property through an audio trail – available on Spotify – that lets them scan QR codes and follow the stories behind its rooms, people, and collections.

Beyond the fort itself, guests can try their hand at pottery with local artisans, take up archery, badminton, or croquet, explore the neighbouring village, or head to the Ganga for dolphin watching. At just two hours from Delhi, the property makes for an easy weekend option for families travelling with elder parents or grandparents – offering a change of scenery without a long drive, and plenty of shared spaces where the family can spend time together without needing to be constantly on the move. It is pet-friendly as well, with its orchards and open grounds giving pets room to walk and stay with the family through the day.

Fort Unchagaon also lends itself to destination weddings, celebrations, family gatherings, and corporate offsites, with its royal courts, lawns, poolside spaces, and former Diwan Khana offering multiple settings for celebrations to unfold across the property rather than within a single banquet hall.

The fort has already made its mark in popular culture, having featured as Alia Bhatt’s family home in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, with an appearance in the upcoming Prime Video series Ek Khoya Mahal still to come.

For travellers based in Delhi NCR, the proposition is straightforward: a weekend inside a 300-year-old fort, without having to go very far to find it.
