The Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to replace paper Incoming Passenger Cards with a digital arrival system, describing it as a significant step towards a smoother and more modern entry experience for international visitors.
The move will see digital arrival cards replace the paper forms currently completed by overseas travellers entering Australia, aligning the country’s border processes with growing global expectations for seamless digital travel.
ATEC Managing Director Peter Shelley said today’s international travellers increasingly expect digital services at every stage of their journey.
“International travellers increasingly expect a seamless digital experience, and this is a sensible improvement that will make arriving in Australia easier and more efficient,” Mr Shelley said.
While the arrival card is only one part of the visitor experience, Shelley said the entry process plays an important role in shaping first impressions of Australia.
“While the arrival card is only one part of the journey, first impressions matter and a smooth and welcoming arrival experience helps reinforce Australia’s reputation as a world-class destination.”
ATEC said the tourism industry has long supported initiatives that reduce unnecessary barriers to travel while maintaining Australia’s strong border security. The organisation believes simpler arrival procedures will help strengthen Australia’s competitiveness as international visitor numbers continue to recover.
