Bekal Tourism Village Project: Kerala Tourism Partners with Morex Group

Kerala Tourism finalized an agreement with Morex Group for the development of the esteemed Bekal Tourism Village Project, marking a significant step towards realizing the proposals presented at the Tourism Investors Meet 2023 (TIM).

Mr. P A Mohamed Riyas, Minister for Tourism, Kerala handed over the License Agreement for the Bekal Tourism Village Project to Mr. Sherief Maulakkiriath, Chairman & Managing Director of Morex Group of Companies, Kanhangad, at a ceremony held at Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram on March 06, 2024.

Bekal Resorts Development Corporation Limited (BRDC), a PSU under the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala will oversee the implementation of the Bekal Tourism Village Project in Kasaragod district.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Riyas highlighted the significance of the Bekal Tourism Village Project, which garnered considerable attention at the TIM amidst a plethora of investment proposals totaling Rs 15,000 crore.

“After careful evaluation and scrutiny, Morex Group was selected from numerous interested investors,” stated the Minister, emphasizing the potential of the project to enhance the tourism landscape of Bekal and the Malabar region. He emphasized Bekal’s emergence as a prominent MOUSE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and destination wedding hub.

Mr. Riyas outlined the government’s commitment to facilitating private investment in tourism projects to create employment opportunities and bolster the state’s tourism sector.

Under the agreement, approximately 33.18 acres of land at Kolavayal in Ajanur Panchayat, Hosdurg Taluk in Kasaragod district, will be allocated to Morex Group for the Bekal Tourism Village Project for 30 years.

Mr. E Chandrasekharan, MLA, Kanhangad, presided over the function, underscoring the project’s significance in elevating Bekal’s tourism potential. Mr. P B Nooh IAS, Director of Kerala Tourism, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, while Mr. P Shijin, Managing Director of BRDC, provided insights into the project’s objectives, emphasizing its focus on eco-tourism, experiential tourism, adventure tourism, agro-tourism, village tourism, and cultural tourism.

The event was attended by key dignitaries including Mr. Manikandan K, President of Block Panchayat, Kanhangad, and Director of BRDC; Mrs. T Shobha, President of Grama Panchayat, Ajanur; Mr. Sabeesh K, Vice President of Grama Panchayat, Ajanur; Mr. Manoj Kumar K, Managing Director of KTIL; Ms. Sikha Surendran IAS, Managing Director of KTDC; Mr. Mohammed Naif. K, Executive Director of Morex Group, and Mr. Khalid Ali M.A. Shaheen, Sponsor of Morex Group.
