Chaliyar River Paddle, one of the most popular adventure tourism events in Kerala, will kick off from Nilambur today. The 7th edition of Chaliyar River Paddle, organized by Jellyfish Water Sports in collaboration with the Kerala Tourism Department, will start on November 12 and end on November 14 at Beypore Estuary.
More than 100 water sports adventurers and tourists from India and abroad will be paddled for 88 km to Beypore for this year’s Chaliyar River Paddle ,.
Mattummal Salim, Chairman, Nilambur Municipality will officiate the flag off at Manavedan High School premises. Mr. PA Mohammad Riyaz, Tourism Minister, Kerala will attend the closing ceremony on 14th November in Beypore.
Chaliyar River Paddle is one of the regional events selected by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Society under the Kerala Tourism Department for the development of water sports adventure and activities in the state. This project has been going on for the last few years as an opportunity to promote responsible, adventure, and tourism in our country and to utilize the potential of our rivers in an eco-friendly manner.
Participants at Chaliyar River Pad, along with the oars, will collect plastic waste from the river and hand it over to volunteers at the social impact organization Green Wirmes, a recycling and green organization, said Mr. Kaushik Kodithodika, Managing Director, Jellyfish Water Sports.
Sculling is a centuries-old water sport that has been practiced in universities in Europe, America, Australia, Japan, and China besides India. Youth Olympic gold medalist coach Ratheesh DB will lead the team in rowing. This year’s Chaliyar River Paddle expedition will have an exhibition of rowing boats from Manakkadavu to Beypore on November 14.
