Cholan Tours & Travel Xs Wins Tamil Nadu Tourism Awards

On World Tourism Day, September 27, the Tamil Nadu government, for the first time, has honoured  50 stakeholders in 17 categories, including the best five-star hotel, best tour operators, best restaurant, best tourist guide, best tourism district, best tourist destination, and so on.

Cholan Tours, Trichy won the gold award instituted by the Department of Tourism, Government of Tamilnadu in both inbound and domestic tour operator categories, while Chidambara Vilas in Tirumayam, Pudukottai district, won the best heritage hotel award and Indian Residency in Srirangam was named as the best home-stay facility, in the recently announced Tamil Nadu state Tourism awards.

 The award ceremony was held, during World Tourism day on September 27, 2022, and  Dr. M. Mathiventhan, Minister of Tourism, Tamilnadu inaugurated it in Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai.  Mr. B. Chandra Mohan IAS, Principal Secretary, Tourism, Culture, and Religious Endowments Department, Mr. Sandeep Nanduri IAS, Director of Tourism and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, and Mr. S. R. Gandhi, Director, Arts and Culture Department of Tamil Nadu, were present on the occasion. As a part of the award ceremony, various tourism stakeholders were recognised for their contribution towards the development of Tourism in Tamil Nadu. The awardees included operators, airlines, accommodation units, restaurants, guides, and other tourism enterprises contributing to the promotion of tourism in the state.

Sterling Ooty Elk Hill bags best-themed resort and the Hotel Tamil Nadu in Thanjavur won the TTDC Star performer award in the budget hotel category. KMS Hakkim Kalyana Biryani Restaurant was named the best eatery in traditional cuisine. “Best Plantation Resort“ Winner awarded to Thapovan Resorts Kodai Hills and “Indian Residency ”  bagged the Best Homestay Award.

Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur was named the cleanest tourist destination. In the individual awards, Selvam Maruthamuthu of Thanjavur won a prize for the best tour guide.

“Up to now, there was no official recognition and awards given to tourism stakeholders by the government. But Tourism Minister M Mathiventhan made an announcement last year, due to which, the first edition of tourism awards instituted by the government,” explained Mr. Sandeep Nanduri, Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism.

Tamil Nadu Tourism department also released new safety guidelines for promoters of adventure tours, camping, caravan travel and parks, bed and breakfast, and homestay facilities at the Chennai event.
