Emirates and SriLankan establish a reciprocal interline partnership

Emirates and Sri Lankan Airlines have entered into a reciprocal interline agreement to enhance connectivity for passengers of both airlines. This strategic partnership facilitates access to new destinations within each other’s networks, with seamless travel via Colombo and Dubai, all under a single ticket, offering the added convenience of hassle-free baggage transfers.

Tickets are now available for immediate travel, unlocking a range of 15 regional destinations operated by Sri Lankan Airlines through Colombo for Emirates passengers to select from. This expanded interline network encompasses two new Indian destinations, Madurai and Tiruchirapally, along with Gan Island in the Maldives. Passengers can embark on their journeys with a single ticket, benefit from a generous baggage policy, and experience a smooth baggage check-through process to their final destination. The network also includes a variety of Far East and South Asian destinations such as Cochin, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Male, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, Guangzhou, Seoul, and Tokyo.

Sri Lankan Airlines’ passengers will also enjoy access to Emirates’ extensive global network, connecting to 15 cities operated by Emirates beyond Dubai. This interline network spans points across the Middle East, Africa, Russia, and the United States, offering SriLankan customers a premium travel experience and partnership benefits when flying to destinations like Bahrain, Amman, Dammam, Medina, Cairo, Muscat, Nairobi, Moscow, Tel Aviv, and several U.S. cities, including New York JFK, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, and Houston.

Travel itineraries can be readily booked on emirates.com, srilankan.com, and through preferred online and offline travel agencies.

Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the interline partnership, saying, “We are pleased to activate an interline partnership with Sri Lankan and provide our customers with more choice and access to additional destinations to suit their travel plans. This partnership enables customers to seamlessly fly to unique destinations in India and the Maldives, via Colombo. We look forward to further developing our cooperation in the near future and enhancing benefits that customers can enjoy when traveling with Emirates and Sri Lankan on one ticket.”

Richard Nuttall, Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines, emphasized their commitment to providing global connectivity to Sri Lanka, stating, “SriLankan is committed to providing connectivity to Sri Lanka from around the world and we work with many partners to access cities we don’t fly to.  Emirates is a truly global airline and has a long history in Sri Lanka and it gives us real pleasure to work with them. The partnership provides more options to connect to and from Sri Lanka, assisting Sri Lankan passengers at home and abroad, and supports tourism growth to the Pearl of the Indian Ocean.”

Emirates has been vital to Sri Lanka’s aviation landscape, serving nearly 140 destinations worldwide. Since launching its services to Sri Lanka in 1986, Emirates has transported more than 11 million passengers to and from Colombo. The airline currently operates two direct daily flights to Colombo, utilizing the Boeing 777-300ER, along with an additional daily service via Malé, offering passengers flexibility in flight selection and the convenience of minimal connection times. Emirates stands as the only international carrier providing first-class services to the country, ensuring passengers enjoy world-class products and superior comfort both in the air and on the ground. Ttravelers flying to U.S. destinations on Emirates and Sri Lankan interline tickets must clear their baggage with U.S. Customs at the first point of entry into the country.
