Etihad enhances Scandinavian connectivity in strategic codeshare deal with SAS

Etihad Airways and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) have entered into a strategic codeshare agreement, offering customers of both airlines improved connectivity to a wider range of destinations within each other’s networks.

Under this agreement, travelers can book a single ticket for their journey and need to check in only once at the beginning of their flight, with their baggage seamlessly checked through to their final destination.

Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue Officer, expressed, “Our strategic bilateral agreement with SAS, following the launch of our flights to Copenhagen, enables smoother travel for our passengers from Northern Europe to experience Abu Dhabi. They can also seamlessly connect to our expanding global network, including our growing list of destinations in the Indian Sub-Continent, East Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. This collaboration provides our passengers with convenient access to various Scandinavian destinations, such as Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, Gothenburg, Bergen, and Aarhus. It is part of our ongoing mission to promote Abu Dhabi’s cultural and economic growth by welcoming more visitors to our city, offering enhanced travel benefits and enriching experiences.”

Paul Verhagen, SAS Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, added, “We are delighted to announce a new codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways. This partnership broadens the options available to SAS customers for travel to Abu Dhabi and beyond, with connections to destinations such as India, the Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and more. Our commitment to providing seamless travel experiences remains unwavering as we strive to enhance international connectivity for our customers.”

This agreement further strengthens the relationship between Etihad and SAS, as they are already partners in the Etihad Guest frequent flyer program. Etihad Guest members will earn miles when flying with SAS, and EuroBonus members will likewise earn miles on all flights across both airline networks.

The codeshare arrangement is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of December 2023, enabling customers to make bookings through Etihad’s sales channels, including Etihad.com and travel agents, for travel commencing in January.
